I came up with the idea of making this smoothie from the classic dessert “apple pie”, but with a twist. I subbed apple pie spices with masala chai spices that I bought from my trip to India last month.
Its possible you may not have this spice blend handy and its not easy to find ready jars like pumpkin or apple spice. I have given a quick list of ingredients for chai spice blend, if you own a well stocked pantry chances you have all the spices. If you have a hard time finding them, just use what you have on hand or replace it with apple or pumpkin spice mix.
- CHAI SPICED APPLE SMOOTHIE
- MAKES 2 glasses
INGREDIENTS
- 2 tablespoons quick cooking oats soaked in ½ cup plant milk overnight
- 2-3 walnuts
- 1 red apple, i like gala cored and chopped
- 1½ cups almond milk, or plant milk of your choice
- ¼ tsp ground cinnamon
- ½ tsp chai spice ( blend 1/2 tsp cardamom, ¼ tsp ground fennel, 1/2 tsp ground ginger, 1/8 tsp ground cloves)
- 1 date pitted or 1 teaspoon maple syrup
Blend all the ingredients in a high speed blender till smooth. adjust any ingredient to your taste, specially the spices. Drink right away.
