Ingredients
  

  • 6-8 Oranges; Cara, Blood, Navel, Valencia, Pixie, Mandarin should get about 4 cups of juice
  • 4 lemons and/limes juiced
  • 1 tsp ground cardamom
  • 3 inch piece ginger, grated and juiced or 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • a few turns of freshly cracked black pepper
  • 2 cups iced water
  • 2-4 tsp honey or maple syrup for sweetness optional
  • a small handful of holy basil or Italian basil lightly bruised
  • ice as needed

Instructions
 

  • Extract as much juice from the oranges to get about 4 cups, if you have to you can strain the juice. I like the pulp and leave it whole.
  • Add juice from the lemons ginger and sweetener if using and basil leaves. Stir in the ground spices and chilled water.
  • Place it in the fridge for about 30 minutes for the spices to infuse. Serve chilled over ice! if not drinking right away, don't add the basil, it turns dark and makes the drink bitter.
